Kyra Wills-Umdenstock

/

Composer-turned-community leader, project manager, event director, and supporter of affordable education and game industry accessibility. I aspire to be a student and educator simultaneously, for as long as I can. I am a MUSE scholar that graduated from CUNY Hunter College in May 2020 with a BA in Media Studies: Emerging Media, and a minor in music. I'm currently pursuing my MPA at Baruch College in nonprofit administration.

I am a big advocate for video games as art and the next great form of storytelling. I'm also a fan of puzzles. I love music theory exercises because I view it as musical note sudoku.

By day, I'm currently the Center of Excellence Administrator and Industry Liaison for NYU Game Center at Tisch School of the Arts – and by night, I run the EGD Collective as board chair and CEO. I consider myself a games industry nomad, having been involved in games education, events, QA, sound design, esports, and marketing for 10 years. But, my favorite gig was being a professional Jackbox Party Pack player for NYXL, and my most notable achievement was getting to pet SonicFox’s dog while working East Coast Throwdown: The Pit.

I currently serve on the NYC Mayor's Office Digital Games Industry Council – including the Gaming Pathways Education Advisory Board overseeing curriculum development for a new bachelor’s degree program in game design at the City College of New York. I also recently was on the advisory board for a new museum exhibit for black and latine youth housed at the Harlem School of the Arts. I also contributed to the Voice of Intercollegiate Esports Inclusive Excellence Handbook, a guide for college administration, program managers, and club leaders on DE&I in esports. I was honored in 2021 by the Game Awards as a part of Future Class, am also a recipient of the JBL Quantum Grant, AnyKey Changemakers Grant, and Girl Scout Gold Award.

You can read a bit about my journey with EGD here as well (aka, all I wanted was a small game design club but instead I became a CEO of a nonprofit - or - the story of the time I was forced to learn how to play League of Legends). The EGD's Career Programs, and the Waffle Games are my two pride and joys of the organization. To date, I directly prevented over 100 students from dropping out or getting academically dismissed from university.
